A Special Tribute to Lars Nielsen

Unitarian Church of Montpelier, 130 Main St., Montpelier, VT

Readings of the poetry of the late Lars Nielsen and three performances: his short play, "The Aspirants," performed by The Valley Players; and two works on which he and his brother, composer Erik Nielsen, collaborated. Donations will go to the Lars Nielsen Scholarship Fund at Norwich University.

On Sunday, May 26 at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in Montpelier, Vermont, there will be a celebration of the late Lars Nielsen’s writings. There will be readings of his poetry and three performances: one of his short plays, The Aspirants, performed by The Valley Players; and two works on which he and his brother, composer Erik Nielsen, collaborated. The first is The Falling of Trees for baritone and piano quartet and features baritone Thomas Beard (seen in central Vermont in A Fleeting Animal in 2015) and the Northern Third Quartet. The second is the premiere of A Psalm for a New Year for chorus and solo viola, with a hand-picked chamber chorus led by Jessica Pierpont with Elizabeth Reid, viola. In both works, Lars wrote the text and Erik wrote the music.

The event is open to the public and admission is free, but donations are welcome. All donations will go to the Lars Nielsen Scholarship Fund at Norwich University.
